Abstract [en]

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a disease that is usually caused by tobacco smoking. The purpose of this integrated literature review was to compile and describe nursing interventions for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Thirteen articles were analyzed and three themes emerged in the results which have been termed as: Education, Relaxation and Extra support. The result showed that education and information can reduce smoking, improve quality of life and combined with exercise provide an improved physical function. Relaxation techniques can provide an improved quality of life by including reduced dyspnerelaterad anxiety and uncertainty. BMI and belief in their own ability can be improved through additional support. This knowledge may help health care professionals to support the patient in achieving well-being despite their illness.
