Abstract [en]

This essay describes how accessibility and availability is being treated throughout the building process and how it can be improved. Availability and accessibility is needed because a lot of people in the world has got a disability of some sort. The most common disabilities that affects the physical environment are described for a deeper understanding. To have a disability means that because of the built environment you feel limited in your everyday life. To be able to participate in the everyday life in the same conditions as everybody else is a human right and something that should be reflected in society. The building process is extensive with a lot to consider. Accessibility is one of them. It was investigated how availability and accessibility is taken into account in the different stages through the building process. The analysis of the result is that accessibility is usually considered in the final stages of a project, even though it really should be the other way around and that there is more to be desired in the early stages.During the building process a range of check points at different stages are conducted. One of them are conducted by a specialist or certified in availability and accessibility. When and how often these checks are performed varies from municipality to municipality and from project to project. To review availability means that you must know variety of rules by heart. Then it is almost untenable, it has been investigated whether a checklist can help to keep track of the laws or regulations that apply accessibility, and at what stages of such a checklist can be used.Already existing checklists have been reviewed and goodies selected from them have been used to the checklist in this report. Theories of checklists have been investigated, how they should be optimized and how they actually ensures a rightful performance. The completed checklist has been tested on real objects and completely independent persons from the user point of view. The results of the tests went well and thanks to it having a checklist that can be tailor fitted to the needs of the user.To get the best possible insight into the industry, several interviews were conducted with active industry, from designers to clients and experts. The topic has then been how each person working on availability and where in the construction process they are.The checklist created can be seen as a relatively competitive tool for an expert in many different ways, either as a self-monitoring tool for your own use or as a competitive advantage towards customers.
