Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
The aim of this study was to examine how self-selected recorded nature sounds could affect the perceived stress of office working city dwellers. A total of seven office workers participated. The study consisted of two interviews per participant, and that the participants listened to one of two selectable audio files with nature sounds during working hours. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed by text condensation, and these sentences where then compared with each other. The participants felt that they were stressed at the baseline of the study, and at the end of the study the participants felt that they had been introduced to a good stress management method. The participants felt relaxed while they listened to the audio file and that the effect was maintained for up to three hours. The participants experienced recorded nature sounds as health promoting. However the participants felt that the intervention didn’t last long enough for any major effect to be noticed. The study results are discussed related to the health counselor's role in health promotion.
