The availability of mobile gaming is one of the reasons that the use of mobile gaming has grown over the years. A game that has dominated and been on several mobile game leader boards in 2013 is the game Candy Crush Saga. What is the reason for its popularity is a well discussed subject on forums and websites, but no one has done a study on Candy Crush Saga with the goal to be able to explain this.This study tries to explain the game's popularity by looking more closely at the players motivates to play the game.To understand the player, this study has evaluated previous written theories of different player types. Player types describe what the player within a certain typology has for motivation to play the game and which needs the player tries to satisfy. There exist several different types of players, but all can be classified into one of the following motivation categories: Achievement, Social and Immersion.Our results demonstrate that the player plays Candy Crush Saga to "pass time", which is a motivational component that is classified under the category of Immersion.
