Abstract [en]

The goal of this thesis has been to get an insight in handheld software development - and the iPhone in particular - including a comparison between Quartz UIKit, in the software development kit provided by Apple for the iPhone, and direct OpenGL commands for displaying real-time graphics. To achieve this, a 2D game engine written in OpenGL was created and then compared to the built in 2D graphics API Quartz. The main goal was to find out the best way of rendering graphics when creating 2D games for the iPhone.
