Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine occupational therapists experiences of prescribing cognitive assistive technology for adults with intellectual disabilities. A qualitative approach was used and the writher performed telephone interviews with 12 occupational therapists working with habilitation in different parts of the country. The interviews where analyzed with a qualitative content analysis and the categories; the importance of identifying needs before prescribing cognitive assistive technology, to promote participation in the prescription process, different approaches when prescribing cognitive assistive technology, the environments importance for the use of cognitive assistive technology and who is responsible for following up the cognitive assistive technology?, where identified and presented in the result. The result showed different approaches in identifying the needs and prescribing cognitive assistive technology. It also showed that the environment is of great significance if an assistive technology device is to be used or not and the focus should lie on educating the caregivers to promote motivation. The result also showed that the occupational therapists experienced a need for more resources for closer and more follow-ups.
