Energy System Analysis in the Swedish Iron and Steel Industry

The energy use in the Swedish Iron and Steel Industry is described with the methodology of the System Analysis Models. Production routes, technologies, materials and energy flows are described and analyzed for the production plants in Sweden, obtaining the Reference Energy System (RES) for the industry. The energy consumption and CO2 emissions from Sweden will be compared with the results that could be obtained when using the Best Available Techniques (BAT) in the Steel sector. The comparisson will allow to indentify main processes which can achieve largest energy savings and CO2 mitigation.
