Sound recording
Abstract [sv]

1 CD with extensive liner notes.During his lifetime the Leipzig-born Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877–1933) was a well-known harmonium player and pianist. It was his organ music that made him internationally famous as a composer, especially in Britain and the USA. Today, too, his own organ music is frequently recorded and heard in recitals, but his many organ transcriptions are less familiar. AFter Wagner, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) was the composer whose music Karg-Elert transcribed most often, carefully choosing the pieces best suited to the dynamic and colouristic possibilities of the late Romantic organ. Content:1. Capriccio (Toccata in G major, BWV 916, 1st section)2-3. Fantasie und Doppelfuge (Fantasia and Fugue) in A minor, BWV 9044. Symphonie Pastorale (Sinfonia from the Christmas Oratoria, 2nd cantata, BWV 2485-7. Toccata in E minor, BWV 9148-9. Choral-Improvisation und Fuge (from the motet ‘Singet dem Herrn’, BWV 225)10. Echo from Partita in B minor, BWV 83111-14 Toccata in D minor, BWV 91315. Adagio (Air célèbre) (‘Air’ from Suite in D major, BWV 1068)
