A local acknowledgement mechanism for reliable multicasting

Abstract [en]

Multimedia applications, based on multicasting, require that all data packets are delivered safely in a reasonably short time. Such high-quality service requires a substantial amount of network bandwidth, processing, and memory. With the growing size of multicast applications, scalability is an important issue. The way we reach scalability is through clustering. We propose a protocol for reliable multicast, based on a cluster structure. We prove that it has optimal latency for acknowledging data and for removing it from the logging servers' memory. We also show that the reliable protocol load is constant for all nodes
