Abstract [en]

Although many bridge management systems (BMSs) contain some forms of life-cycle costing (LCC), the use of LCC in bridge engineering is scarce. This paper presents a comprehensive integrated LCC implementation scheme, taking into account the bridge investment and management process in Sweden. The Swedish Bridge and Tunnel Management System (BaTMan) will be introduced as a case study. The paper clarifies how a BMS with an integrated comprehensive LCC tool can assist decision makers at all levels and within all phases in selecting the most cost-effective alternative.
