Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

A visit to the cimena is no longer just about the films, it is about the full experience where other factors play just as an important role. The cinema snacks is one of these factors. One of the snacks item that are sold are hot snacks, a thick potato snack. SF Bio,the leading cinema company in Scandinavia, serve their snacks in paper cups that are prepared and then heated and displayed for the customers in warming cupboards. The preparation process for the snacks is today time consuming and large quatities of snacks are being spilt on the floor resulting in the cinemas looking untidy and the company loosing money on snacks shrinkage. The aim with this project was to develop a new product that would decrease the shrinkage and make the snacks preparation process more efficient. Interviews were held at the start of the project with the staff at some of SF-Bios cinemas in the Stockholm area to get a clear picture of how the preparation process works for hot snacks. It turned out that there were two stages of the process that took more time and where most snacks were being spilt. These two stages were when the filled cups were put into the warming cupboard and during the adjustment of the cups. The adjustment of the cups is done to make sure the cups are heaped at the point of sale. Specifications for the product was then set and ideas for solutions were then created through brainstorming. The final concept was a funnel tool that would help contain the snacks to the cups and adjust several cups at a time. Further developments were then made to improve each function. During the process, methods from The Mechanical design process, were used and CAD-models were made in Solid Edge to test and define geometries. Function models in both carton and aluminium were made to test and evaluate the functions. The choice of material and production methods were based on consultations with experts within each area at KTH. The result was a hand held snacks tool that both make the process of pouring the snacks in to the cups more effective and reduce shrinkage. The tool is made up out of four aluminum sheets, held together by hinges that together make out an open frame that holds twenty snacks cups. The sheets are bent to form a funnel, to prevent the hot snacks from falling outside of the cups during the pouring process. With a shearing movement, the cups inside the tool are easily adjusted to receive a heaped result. The construction enables the tool to fold completely making it take up as little space as possible while not used. It was given the name ROMB because while sheared it holds the form of a rhomb. To be able to evaluate the product, the specifications that were made at the start of the project was examined and tests were made with a function model made of aluminum. Both the amount of shrinkage and the time were improved with the use om ROMB and all the demands were uphold. However the validity of the tests are questionable due tothe tests not being carried out by the SF staff or in its right environment. Further tests at SF should be made to guarantee the results. All other specifications were fulfilled with the exception of the procution cost of five hundred kronor which was exceeded by two kronor. Even though the results were good, there are room for improvement. The function model showed how difficult it is to carry, something that could easily be fixed. The product could also be integrated with the carriers that are used by SF to collect waste and to make it useful for popcorn as well.
