This thesis assesses sustainability-led innovation work at a coworking space. The case study focuses on the innovation for sustainability work conducted at a coworking space in Gävle, in 2022. The coworking space, which previously accommodated a cluster and currently accommodates an innovation hub, organizations that purportedly strive towards innovative solutions for sustainability. 

The study explores the following, the addressed sustainability drivers i.e., goals, can they be addressed innovatively and does the coworking environment facilitates innovation for sustainability?

The study employs a qualitative case study approach. Hence, semi-structured interviews, observations, and a review of articles was conducted to gather data. The findings suggest that the cluster and the innovation hub focus on Sustainable development goals 3, 9 and 11 according to the United Nations agenda for 2030, to tackle sustainability issues. It also demonstrates the creative contributions of the cluster and the hub to sustainability through various innovative practices, such as sharing ideas, collaboration, and the impact on consumers behaviour. The coworking space uses various methods to promote sustainability, such as energy efficient practices and sharing economy. It also has the potential to foster innovation by facilitating idea sharing and collaborative partnership. However, there is limited evidence of highly creative or transformative i.e., innovative approaches to accelerate sustainability drivers.

In conclusion, the thesis highlights the sustainability-led innovation observed from both the cluster and the hub. The study also highlights the potential of coworking space to promote innovation by facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange. Further research is recommended to explore how coworking spaces can be better designed and managed to unlock their full potential to facilitate or accelerate not only innovation but innovation for sustainability.

Denna studie utvärderar hållbarhetsdrivet innovationsarbete på en coworking-plats. Fallstudien fokuserar på innovation arbetet för hållbarhet som utförs på en coworking-plats i Gävle, år 2022. Coworking- platsen, som tidigare inrymde ett kluster och för närvarande hyser en innovation hubb, organisationer som påstås sträva efter innovativa lösningar för hållbarhet.

Studien undersöker adresserade hållbarhetsdrivkraft, kan de adresseras innovativt och om coworking-miljön främjar innovation för hållbarhet.

Studien använder en kvalitativ fallstudiemetod. Detta innebär att semistrukturerade intervjuer, observationer och granskning av artiklar genomfördes för datainsamling. Resultaten tyder på att klustret and innovation hubben fokuserar på hållbarhetsmål 3,9, och 11, enligt agenda 2030 för hållbar utveckling. Den visar också på klusterets och hubbens kreativa bidrag till hållbarhet genom olika innovativa metoder, såsom idéutbyte, samarbeta samt påverkan på konsumenternas beteende. Coworking-platsen använder sig av olika metoder för att främja hållbarhet, såsom energieffektiva metoder och delningsekonomi. Den har också potential att främja innovation genom att underlätta idéutbyte och samarbeten. Det finns dock begränsade bevis på mycket kreativa eller transformativa, dvs. innovativa, tillvägagångssätt för att främja hållbarhet.

Sammanfattningsvis lyfter studien fram innovation för hållbarhet som observerats hos både klustret och hubben. Studien lyfter också fram potentialen hos coworking-platsen att främja innovation genom att underlätta samarbete och kunskapsutbyte. Ytterligare forskning rekommenderas för att undersöka hur coworking-platser kan utformas och hanteras bättre för att frigöra sin fulla potential att underlätta eller påskynda, inte bara innovation men också innovation för hållbarhet.
