Abstract [en]

The Swedish population is getting older and more elderly will continue to be in need of

support from the community to meet their everyday lives. As the population gets older

dementia also increases the spread in the country. Because of this more people with

dementia will be in need of help in their everyday lives. This will increase the demands

on elderly care in the municipalities where they have to offer good care. As more

individuals suffering from dementia will be in need of help in their daily lives aid officers'

become more common.

individuals in need of help. A aid officer's perspective characterizes thus the study. In the

process of analyzing the results of the study used a theoretical framework which included

theories street level bureaucracy, categorization and "nets of accountability".

To examine the aid administrator's treatment of individuals with dementia a qualitative

study was conducted in which four professional assistance officer from municipalities in

central Sweden were interviewed.

The study indicates that there is a picture of how a good treatment of demented

individuals should be designed and achieved but that there are several factors leading to

the aid administrator's treatment of demented individuals are affected. Factors that appear

to affect the hospitality is the organization's expectations, the network around the

demented person and the expectations of the individual. The study also indicates

shortcomings in the fulfillment of certain criteria that assistance officer in Sweden to

achieve. Mainly, we are then on the achievement of self-determination principle.
