Abstract [en]

Phase relationships are a complex and mystifying phenomenon for earlystage recording engineers and university students. In this paper, we take theanalytical capabilities of time shifting plugin Auto-Align and use it todevelop new methods of understanding phase interaction. We utilise thevisualisations and time shifting features to assist in recording a multi-mikeddrum kit and in the post-production soundstage for a thirty-two piece bigband. We explore new methodologies for phase interaction and microphonemanipulation by running these two experiments and documenting the processusing a combination of text, audio, and video.
